Market Travels: Mexico City

Hi Everyone!

You may or may not know me, so I'll introduce myself. My name is Stephanie and I'm the Founder of Cleveland Flea. I'm in love with markets, and I have been for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, it was farm markets in the small town I grew up in, and as I got older and traveled the world, it became street markets in Paris or Amsterdam or Germany. As I began my own market in my beloved city of Cleveland, I didn't allow myself many large trips. Anyone who knows me knows that I travel, but they're usually short bursts to places I've already been (and I love) like Chicago, Toronto, Florida or out West. I did have a spectacular trip to Morocco 3 years ago, but that was probably my biggest trip in quite a while.

This year I decided I'd be changing that. I want my life to revolve around markets and small makers, in as many enriching ways as possible. And one of them is to travel to a few very special ones throughout the world and write a book / guide about them. Seems like such a small thing to plan, but with running two high-growth startups, I never dedicated large sums of money or big blocks of time to anything but the businesses.

I'm planning 4 big trips of 2018. All to markets where I've never been- and I'd love it if you wanted to follow along. Our head photographer at Indie Foundry, Heidi, is coming with me to help me capture the beauty, details, products, people and cities that call these markets home. And hopefully, in addition to a lively instagram account, I'll also be bringing back inspiration for our own market and our own city. We're looking forward to big growth on many fronts in 2018- and we're in need of some serious inspiration and creativity to achieve that goal.

CITY NO. 1: MEXICO CITY

In Mexico, street food reigns. And so do markets. We'll be spending time in a few spots, including these ones (and probably a few more!).
