Make It: Holiday Fringe Trees

I say "Fringe Trees" my six year old says "Fuzzy Mountains." Either way, these were so fun to make because of these amazing scissors from Pat Catan's.

FRINGE SCISSORS!!!

I now want to fringe all the paper.

Check for the babysitter. Fringed!

Homework log for school. Fringed!

Toilet paper. Fringed!

Obviously I recommend the fringe scissors, but if you don't have them, a regular pair of scissors will work too. Additionally you'll need paper mache cones, tissue paper and/or scrap book paper, and double-sided tape.

  1. Start by cutting strips of paper approx 2.5" wide. The length will vary depending on the size of your cone and what part of the cone you are wrapping. 
  2. Cut fringe about 2" along the edge. The uncut portion along the top is what you'll adhere to the cone.
  3. Start from the bottom and wrap strips around the cone by adhering them with double-sided tape. Trim off any excess from the strip of paper on the back.Continue layering strips on top of each other, moving up slightly for each strip.
  4. Once you've wrapped the entire cone, add something fun on top to finish it off. 

I used copper glitter paper from Pat Catan's to make a triangle tree topper. It's the same paper I used for this triangle garland.

I have a hunch that there will be a lot of fringed paper involved in my gift wrapping this year.
