Fleacap: April Flea with Juli and Jon
Jon and Juli, official Flea photographers, reporting back from April with our recap of all of the food we ate, fleas we found, and fun we had! Did you miss last month's party? Don't worry. We've got you covered. Get a load of this!
WHAT WE BOUGHT
Juli:
- Clear Blur Design - Marbled black clay mug
- Wild Foot Studio- Leather necklace
- Brian Giniewski- Drippy ceramic planter
- Lauren HB Ceramics- Mountain ring holder
I love ceramics. Jon and I took a ceramics class together in college, so I have a real appreciation for the craft and techniques these artists use. I’ve been eyeing the pieces that Clear Blur makes for a while now. My mission this Flea was to find myself a new mug to add to my quickly expanding cup collection... and boy, did I!
Brain Giniewski offers these amazing controlled pour glazed items. They were actually a huge inspiration for me while I was taking my ceramics class.
I love the idea of statement necklaces so I knew that I had to get this little leather choker from Wild Foot Studio. This was actually my first Flea find!
I’d like to also mention that I got to hold Winston the rooster from Free Range Skin Care! I always have dreams of building a chicken coop and raising chickens in my backyard. I was so excited when she said I could hold him, and that I needed to hold him close, cause he’s a breast man :P
Jon:
- Wonderland Toys- Ninja Turtle Cards
- Suzy Q's Redos- Lighter
- Great Lake Outfitters- magazine rack and drink shakers
As a kid, I used to play with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures every day–sometimes even going as far as to pack them away inside my backpack so I would have a friend with me when I went to school. Suddenly finding myself in a tent full of retro memorabilia is the last thing I expected when shopping The Flea. I bought twenty packs of cards, ten for me and ten for my brother (whom I quickly messaged excitedly to share the news). Finding them really made my day since I can hardly find any merchandise nowadays that has the old school 80’s comic book TMNT feeling I grew up with.
We also came across a cute magazine rack and cocktail shaker inside the Great Lakes both and we knew we couldn’t pass it up. I have been looking for the perfect gold stand for the studio and the drink shaker and high ball cups were too good to pass up... they have the Ohio seal on them!
WHAT WE ATE
- Pour Cleveland-Morning coffee together
- The Beachcomber Truck- Tater tots
- Betty’s Bomb Ass Burgers- Wild cat burger and cheesy tots
We love going to Pour before hitting up the studio since it’s right down the street on Euclid. It was super chilly Flea morning so we needed some good coffee to warm our bones.
Lunch came, and we knew we had to try the parmesan tots from The Beachcomber Truck. The best part: They come covered in a balsamic glaze. My mouth is still watering!
Juli had mentioned a couple weeks before The Flea that this awesome sounding burger truck with a fun sounding name would be there. Once we got to the Flea I made a bee-line for Betty’s Bomb Ass Burgers in a jiffy. As I approached, I found myself awestruck at the assortment of tasty options before me. I couldn’t decide for myself, so I asked the kind woman who took the orders what she recommended. She gave me three options, but the Wild Cat Burger sounded perfect. Watching my burger being made was one thing, but being able to talk to the lady in charge was a fun time. As I got my monster of a burger, I was told to get a napkin and a fork which I did not argue with looking at it. My first bite is something I will never forget. You could taste all the time and love put into each piece of this beautiful, masterly crafted burger. After I finished, I went back to the truck (it’s line had doubled since I last saw it) and personally thanked her for making my Flea foodie experience worth the wait, complete with a warm hug.
WHAT WE DRANK
From the Happy Camper Bar Car:
• Almond Whisky Sour
• Dark & Stormy Moscow Mule
• Bloody Mary
DOGS WE SAW
We saw more dogs than we have fingers to count them on! Not only was City Dogs there introducing their adoptable pups to the people, but so was Hammy the Frenchie– local celebrity dog, reppin’ Cleveland small biz in a Lil' Burritos baby shirt.
