Make Life Colorful with Shoes and Clothes For Kids
Cleveland is filled with purpose-driven nonprofit organizations and passionate changemakers. We find that inspiring, and we're happy to bring to you our monthly Do-Gooder Series, aimed at connecting you to the causes that make our hearts skip a beat. Support them by purchasing craft cocktails and beer at The Flea Bar, or by donating directly via their own websites. Often times, they'll even have a presence at our events, so don't be shy — let them know you're happy they're here doing good.
Shoes and Clothes for Kids is our Non-Profit Partner for July Flea. Shoes and Clothes for Kids provides a unique service for income-eligible families in Greater Cleveland by distributing new shoes, clothing, and items for infants and youths.
This July, Shoes and Clothes for Kids are asking people to help local kids “live colorfully”.
Anyone who brings a box of new crayons/colored pencils/markers to donate or makes a donation of at least $1 will be entered into a raffle for Cedar Point tickets! Interestingly, the number one item that teachers request from the Cleveland Kids in Need Resource Center–run by Shoes and Clothes for Kids–is crayons. They need so many that the organization has a challenging time keeping them in-stock! It may sound like a small thing to give a child, but a brand new box of crayons instills a sense of pride in a child's learning each day. A Shoes and Clothes for Kids-sponsored teacher recently commented:
“The crayons you supply are a huge source of joy in my room. My big bucket of broken up crayons is just so awful in so many ways. To give a child a new box of crayons…all sharp…with the wrappers on…you have no idea how important this is to child while they are learning. And so important to me as a teacher…one less day of a broken heart for one of my kids.”
