Do-Gooder Series: Shape

Cleveland is filled with purpose-driven nonprofit organizations and passionate changemakers. We find that inspiring, and we're happy to bring to you our monthly Do-Gooder Series, aimed at connecting you to the causes that make our hearts skip a beat. Support them by purchasing craft cocktails and beer at The Flea Bar, or by donating directly via their own websites. Often times, they'll even have a presence at our events, so don't be shy — let them know you're happy they're here doing good.

August's Do-Gooder: Shape

Shape is a hub for creative young minds and professionals alike who hope to see Cleveland grow and thrive as a community. Professionals work closely alongside interns and teach by example to an aspiring generation of artists and innovators.  Shape plans to change art culture in Cleveland and also grow as a film city.

In its essence, Shape is an educational nonprofit that teaches interns about the worlds of photography, cinematography, web design and social media marketing. Shape then provides interns with opportunities to serve nonprofits and businesses in the Cleveland area, whilst working together with professionals as they go.

Shape realized that in our present time, online and social marketing is more important than ever, but that nonprofits cannot always afford the appropriate level of service necessary to communicate their message and needs.  Shape is trying to change this model.  By performing competitive level professional services to local businesses we are able to subsidize the small or nonexistent budgets of select nonprofits.  By using interns and those being educated, the cost of service for charitable organizations can be brought down while maintaining quality level service.

Above all else, Shape is a family. Regardless of if you’re an intern or a CEO your voice is heard and your ideas matter. There are no small clients as anyone we work with is invited into our family.  With the help of the community, local business, professionals and volunteers we hope that we can all Shape Cleveland, together!

Meet the Team:

Shape was founded by Patrick Fenner, a high school career technical teacher that wanted to create additional and further opportunities for those looking for them in Cleveland.  His goal is to show young people that they can work, live and grow here in Cleveland.

Shape’s Lead Design Officer, Nate Mucha, has helped Shape from the beginning.  Nate’s company, Each + Every, has dedicated services and support for Shape and works alongside.

Shape’s Operations Manager, Delaney Canfield, a nonprofit administration student at Cleveland State University who has worked in the industry was instantly captivated by Patrick’s vision for Shape. Her dedication and skills have given the Shape organization the backbone it needs to run smoothly.
